Hi,
I thought I'd make a desktop display chest for my favorite pen.......
|
I liked it so much, I thought I'd make some more!
Maxton's Pen Chest is designed to show off your favorite writing instrument. It is composed of 6 metal pieces joined permanently together with steel pins. The precisely balanced brass lid opens ninety degrees as shown below creating a superb display for your treasured pen or pencil. There are three metals used in each chest; copper, brass and aluminum. The rounded end caps are aluminum; the metal spacers are brass; the lid is brass and the base is copper*. Unlike my puzzle sculptures, this chest arrives fully assembled: the outside dimensions are 7.5" long, 1.25" thick and 1.75" high when closed. All parts are milled from solid bars of metal. The weight is a very pleasing 3.5 pounds. The chest will accomodate any pen or pencil up to 6" long and 0.75" in diameter (including clip). The depth can be customized to accomodate a thicker clip if necessary. I may introduce a longer version if my patrons desire it. I am currently producing 25 chests which are available now.
* Please note, I made a prototype base using Phillip Baldwin's "Makume Gane" metal (alternating strips of copper, nickel silver and bronze fused under pressure and heat). You can see it at the bottom of this page.
